Dilaton Destabilization at High Temperature

چکیده

Many compactifications of higher–dimensional supersymmetric theories have approximate vacuum degeneracy. The associated moduli fields are stabilized by non–perturbative effects which break supersymmetry. We show that at finite temperature the effective potential of the dilaton acquires a negative linear term. This destabilizes all moduli fields at sufficiently high temperature. We compute the corresponding critical temperature which is determined by the scale of supersymmetry breaking, the β–function associated with gaugino condensation and the curvature of the Kähler potential, Tcrit ∼ √ m3/2MP (3/β) 3/4 K ′′−1/4. For realistic models we find Tcrit ∼ 1011–1012 GeV, which provides an upper bound on the temperature of the early universe. In contrast to other cosmological constraints, this upper bound cannot be circumvented by late–time entropy production.

Holography and Thermodynamics of 5D Dilaton-gravity

The asymptotically-logarithmically-AdS black-hole solutions of 5D dilaton gravity with a monotonic dilaton potential are analyzed in detail. Such theories are holographically very close to pure Yang-Mills theory in four dimensions. The existence and uniqueness of black-hole solutions is shown. It is also shown that a Hawking-Page transition exists at finite temperature if and only if the potent...

A chiral lagrangian with broken scale: a Fortran code with the thermal contributions of the dilaton field

The Chiral Dilaton Model is a chiral lagrangian in which the breaking of scale invariance is regulated by the expectation value of a scalar field, called dilaton. Here we provide a Fortran code [1, 2], as a tool to make calculations within the Chiral Dilaton Model at finite density and temperature. The calculations are improved respect to previous works [3, 4] by including the thermal contribut...

On Inflation in the Presence of a Gaugino Condensate

We study the effect of inflation on gaugino condensation in supergravity. Unless the Hubble scale H is significantly below the gaugino condensation scale, the gaugino condensate is a dynamical variable which cannot be integrated out. For a sufficiently high H, the gaugino condensate evolves to zero which in turn leads to dilaton/moduli destabilization. In practice, this often occurs at the Hubb...

Phase-Destabilization Mechanism of Polymer-Modified Bitumens in Quiescent Annealing

Bitumen as a binder in coating and insulating materials is modified with polymers to improve its performance in service conditions. Almost all polymers are incompatible with bitumen, and at high temperatures due to relatively very low viscosity of the bitumen phase, are separated from it. These lead to a considerable limitation in the use and handling of polymer-modified bitumens. An understand...

Optimization to Low Temperature Activity in Psychrophilic Enzymes

Psychrophiles, i.e., organisms thriving permanently at near-zero temperatures, synthesize cold-active enzymes to sustain their cell cycle. These enzymes are already used in many biotechnological applications requiring high activity at mild temperatures or fast heat-inactivation rate. Most psychrophilic enzymes optimize a high activity at low temperature at the expense of substrate affinity, the...
